JFS has always been the expression of this community’s caring and commitment. We had the chance to ask a few supporters about their personal connections to JFS and also asked them to reflect on our Luncheon theme, “If not now, when?”
I was looking to help in the Food Bank when I heard help was needed making up the food and fruit baskets, along with BIG bows. I liked the work right off the bat! Doing the baskets for JFS has given me a sense of pride that I am helping to earn money for JFS and all of the services it provides. There is such a great need to provide food for the low-income and homeless of our city. I like knowing that the basket I am wrapping will bring money for the Food Bank. It has been wonderful to be able to give back to my community. I’m glad I have found a little piece of JFS to be a part of!
I first got involved with JFS as a Board Member. A friend, Sharon Feingold, knew I was interested in becoming involved in the community, and she suggested me to the Board. I have always been interested in JFS because of its direct services to people in need. My proudest accomplishment as President of the Board was the hiring of Ken Weinberg [former JFS CEO].
I don’t remember a time when we weren’t involved with JFS. My dad was President of the JFS Board of Directors when I was young, and the agency was always important to our family. Now with my own kids, we’ve been able to be hands-on with JFS, collecting food and even sorting it at JFS. Just recently, JFS published a list of items the Food Bank needs. That list is on our fridge, and our family commitment is to buy 2-3 items each time we make a trip to Costco and involve the kids in bringing the items to the agency.
