We are pleased to introduce a new program to meet emerging needs in the community: JFS Israeli Community Services.
The mission of JFS calls us to support the well-being, health, and stability of people in our local community. As we collectively navigate these challenging and uncertain times after the barbaric terrorist attack on October 7, we continue to check in with our community partners and with each other to make sure support is available to anyone who needs it.
JFS CEO Rabbi Will Berkovitz notes, “These have been very painful and difficult days for many of us. There are no easy answers or simple solutions. We can gain strength by being active–not passive–and by leaning into Jewish values, history, and resilience and taking care of those who turn to us, just as we have for 131 years.”
To this end, we recently launched JFS Israeli Community Services. This program offers vital support to the local Israeli community by coordinating referrals and resources with established Jewish organizations and forging new relationships within the Israeli community for those who are feeling isolated and in need of support. Additionally, JFS Israeli Community Services includes a small pool of financial assistance to local Israeli families who have been displaced. We developed the program after many discussions with local partners including the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of Greater Washington, Stroum Jewish Community Center, the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle, Stand with Us, ADL, volunteer-led groups such as UnXeptable, as well as countless local Israeli activists and leaders who have dedicated their time and energy to provide mutual aid in their community.
As events continue to unfold, we will keep checking in with the community, reflecting, and coming together to care for ourselves and each other.

הננו שמחים להציג לפניכם תוכנית חדשה שתיתן מענה לצרכי הקהילה הישראלית: JFS, שירותי תמיכה לקהילה הישראלית.
המשימה של JFS היא תמיכה בביטחון, בריאות, ויציבות של חברי קהילתנו. אנו מתמודדים יחדיו עם זמנים קשים וחסרי וודאות לאחר המתקפה המחרידה בשביעי לאוקטובר, וממשיכים לעבוד עם שותפנו בקהילה ואחד עם השני, כדי לוודא שהתמיכה זמינה לכל מי שזקוק לה.
מנכ”ל JFS, רבי וויל ברקוביץ’, מציין: “אלה זמנים מאוד קשים וכאובים לרבים מאיתנו. אין מענה קל או פתרונות פשוטים. אנחנו יכולים לשאוב כוח אם נהיה פעילים ולא פסיביים, תוך השענות על הערכים, ההיסטוריה והחוסן היהודיים ומתן תמיכה באלו שמבקשים זאת, כפי שעשינו במשך יותר ממאה ושלושים שנה.”
ברוח זו, הקמנו את מחלקת שירותי תמיכה לקהילה הישראלית. המחלקה מציעה עזרה חיונית לקהילה על ידי תאום הפניות ומשאבים מול גופים יהודיים מוכרים, וביצירת קשרים חדשים לאלו שמרגישים בידוד וזקוקים לתמיכה. בנוסף לכך, שירותי התמיכה כוללים סיוע למשפחות ישראליות שחיות פה ולמשפחות שהגיעו לאיזורינו לאור המצב.

התוכנית פותחה לאחר שיחות רבות עם שותפים מקומיים כמו הפדרציה היהודית של סיאטל (JCRC), מרכז הקהילה היהודית שטרום (SJCC), הליגה למניעת השמצה (ADL), וקבוצות המנוהלות על ידי מתנדבים כמו UnXeptable, ואין ספור מובילים ופעילים ישראלים שמקדישים זמן ואנרגיה לעזרה הדדית בקהילה.
