Client Update: Allan

When you last saw Allan, he was telling his moving story in the 2014 JFS Luncheon video. It’s been a year since you’ve heard from him. See what he’s up to now:

Now that you’ve been in stable housing for over a year, what has changed for you?

JFS helped me navigate the waters to get my place, and it’s been a real blessing for me. I’ve got it really good here. Everything I need is right up the street at my fingertips. This is really a gift and allows me to look out for myself first, which I didn’t always do. Being in a stable environment is extremely satisfying, and I’m forever grateful to JFS.

How is JFS still a part of your life?

I’ll never forget JFS, and the help they’ve given me. I still visit the Food Bank on a monthly basis. I like how JFS doesn’t make you feel less than – there is no shame when you visit. You’re greeted with a smile, and they go out of their way in the Food Bank for you. It’s extremely helpful for me and a huge morale booster.

We see that you are playing music again. How does that make you feel?

Music gives me peace and tranquility. And no matter what has happened in my past, I’ve never lost that ability to play, which I’m very thankful for. There’s a real satisfaction that comes from playing. I’ve made connections with other local musicians and hope to get some gigs in the future.

What’s next for you?

I look forward to continuing to get my health together – going to the gym and staying sober. I’ll also work on keeping my morale up. I’ve found that when one door closes, another opens, so I keep myself motivated by that.
