Take a look at how people “shop” the Polack Food Bank on their monthly visits to JFS.
People enter in small groups so everyone has a calm and dignified environment to make their selections.
People of all backgrounds living in the Capitol Hill/Central District/Downtown corridor can visit monthly. Anyone in our Jewish community can use the Polack Food Bank, and we offer a monthly Kosher Food Bank Program.
The Polack Food Bank is setup like a grocery store. People take a cart or basket, choose the food they prefer and then volunteers help folks bag up their selections.
With our client choice model, people select the food they prefer. No “one-size fits all” pre-packed bags here.
Fresh, local (and often organic) produce and lean protein options are always available.
When someone doesn’t know how they are getting their next meal, they are experiencing food insecurity. Persistent food insecurity is a risk factor for obesity, diabetes and other chronic diseases – so we offer choices for better health outcomes.
We love how supportive our local businesses are. We partner with a variety of food suppliers, coffee roasting shops, pet stores, bakeries and farmers markets to help bring fresh, local food to our clients.
