These do-it-yourself volunteer ideas can really make a difference for the vulnerable people we serve, and you don’t even have to look for Capitol Hill parking to be able to help! There are plenty of projects that can be completed at home, in your classroom or your own neighborhood.Check out some ideas below:
Create welcome baskets for refugees. Raise money to purchase basic kitchen supplies and toiletries for families arriving to Seattle. Add flash cards, picture dictionaries, metro maps and school supplies. JFS can help with baskets, ribbons and other items you might need.
Collect cleaning supplies for low-income families. JFS sends special volunteer cleaning teams out to help people in need. The cleaners need: buckets, window cleaner, bathroom cleaner, floor cleaner, rags, paper towels, sponges and dust cloths.
Host a carwash, a bake sale or a lemonade stand to raise money for a project to benefit JFS clients. Contact Volunteer Services for help with ideas on purchasing items that our clients need the most.
Ask for birthday party donations. For your birthday ask you friends and family to bring a food item or a gift bag of toiletries to donate to the Polack Food Bank.
Plant seeds for the Polack Food Bank. Plant seeds in small peat pots and grow into food for people in need. The seedlings can be planted in your garden or grown in a planter until large enough to donate. You can also ask your neighbors to donate food harvested from their gardens and fruit trees.
Once you complete do-it-yourself volunteer ideas, contact Director of Volunteer Services Jane Deer-Hileman at (206) 861-3155 to arrange drop-off and delivery.
