The Talmud—the 1,500-year-old proverbial scrapbook of Jewish legend, law and rabbinic debate—has something profound to teach us today.
Some dismiss or even erase uncomfortable texts, but it is not the goal of Jewish education to help us feel comfortable.
As much as we may want to believe it has been achieved, it is clear our freedom is still a work in progress and isn’t evenly distributed among all citizens.
It is only through discomfort and curiosity that we can begin to build a better world for all our children and for all of us.
If we don’t take care of each other, who will?
