Thanks to our generous community, JFS collected 35,000 pounds of food and toiletries during the 2016 Community-Wide Food Drive! Exactly 300 volunteers sorted, boxed and organized more than 2,000 grocery bags during the Food Sort on October 23.
Your donations of food and toiletries will help feed and comfort more than 1,300 households who visit the JFS Polack Food Bank each month.
Please remember, JFS accepts donations year-round. Your continued commitment and involvement makes a difference in the health, well-being and stability of vulnerable individuals and families throughout the Puget Sound region.
As we thank you, we also hope you will take a moment to show appreciation to the government agencies that help fund the Polack Food Bank. Without their support and yours, JFS would not be able to fight food insecurity. Partnerships between community members, private institutions and government are essential to helping individuals and families who are struggling to meet their basic needs.
According to 19th century Rabbi S.R. Hirsch, the task of helping people in need is “so serious and so great that only the combination of these three factors — the community, the societies and private individuals — working together can come near to accomplishing it.”
At JFS, we know Rabbi Hirsch’s words remain true today.
Please contact and thank the following government agencies. Letting them know how important JFS is to your community can impact their future support.
- City of Seattle Human Services Department helps support the Polack Food Bank’s home-delivery program with an annual $69,700 grant.
- Washington State Department of Agriculture helps fund multiple Seattle food banks, including the Polack Food Bank, with a $272,646 grant.
